![]() The Elder Scrolls Online has clearly expressed its fondness for revisiting areas previously explored in Elder Scrolls games, and its fifth expansion, Blackwood, doesn't deviate from that trend. ![]() Unfortunately, as previously mentioned this expansion offers a slim amount of solo content, and minus its addition of the necromancer class, Elsweyr adds little in the way of gameplay mechanics, just barely preventing it from reaching the upper echelon of ESO expansions. Dragons make a return for their first appearance since Skyrim in this expansion, and they aren't any less imposing than their previous incarnations. However, they'd also be wise not to let their guard down while traveling the arid landscape. Given the fan-favorite Khajiit race is front-and-center for the majority of this expansion, players should expect copious amounts of their trademark wit and quirky charm. Although the biome of this area is a bit less awe-inspiring than some of those present in other expansions, the novelty of the previously unplayable area more than makes up for it. This expansion denotes an uptick in the quality of these additions, touching upon several of the qualities that made its predecessor Skyrim so beloved.Įlsweyr, the third major expansion of The Elder Scrolls Online, adds previously unplayable parts of the Elsweyr region, allowing the player to fully explore the region for the first time since the first installment of the franchise, The Elder Scrolls: Arena. In addition to this, Greymoor was also accompanied by the Markarth DLC, a wildly popular, slightly smaller add-on that allowed the player to return to the legendary area of Blackreach. Released in 2020, Greymoor added one of Elder Scrolls Online's most popular activities in the Antiquities excavation missions, providing players the opportunity to discover Tamrielic history and relics with their character's own two hands. Most players thought so, especially since the game had already once returned to an area explored in a previous title in the aforementioned Morrowind expansion. This should sound familiar to anyone who played Skyrim's first DLC, Dawnguard. The setting, coupled with the fact that this expansion is now a free add-on to ESO, redeems this DLC enough to make it easily worth playing.Īnother ESO expansion relying on its players' fondness for past titles, the Greymoor expansion takes players back to Western Skyrim so that they can halt a master vampire's attempt at taking over the land. Vivec, one-third of the region's political regents, the Tribunal, is attempting to stop a meteor from crushing the island of Vvardenfell and needs the assistance of the player. While the gameplay of this expansion leaves some to be desired, the lore surrounding Morrowind is actually quite rewarding for long-term fans of the series. Adding little in regard to game mechanics other than a class also purchasable as separate DLC and a few game modes completely geared towards the online experience, the first major ESO expansion felt shallow in its replayability. Since the Elder Scrolls franchise has thrice visited Morrowind ( The Elder Scrolls: Arena, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's relevant DLC) before their MMORPG venture, players were naturally going to compare this experience to prior Elder Scrolls games, and unfortunately for the expansion, most were slightly underwhelmed. As the first major DLC to be released as part of The Elder Scrolls Online, Morrowind was destined to be the expansion plagued by the most issues however, that doesn't mean the game's trek back to the land of the Dunmer is without merit.
